5 Simple Spring Rituals that you can do with your kids

The Spring Equinox (or the Vernal Equinox) is the first day of spring season. This year in 2024 it is happening on Wednesday 20th March at 6:06am CET 🌸

It’s the moment in the year when the sun passes the equator moving from the southern to the northern hemisphere. The North Pole begins to lean toward the sun again. For this short moment, day and night are approximately the same length.

Spring represents new beginnings, like a new day; like a new breath, it’s dawn in the wheel of the year. A new sun is rising. Life is waking up in the warm sunlight & your spirit  may feel ready to make a fresh start. Nature is bright & coming alive, hopefully you’re feeling inspired & excited to try new ideas and things.

It’s celebrated by nature based faiths as Ostara, which is the feast day on the Wheel of the Year. Ostara is evolved from the word Eostre and Eostre was the German goddess of Spring, the shining dawn, spring and fertility. She is known to bring joy and blessings to all who look to her.

Many cultures and myths associate rabbits and eggs with Ostara as symbols of fertility and re-birth, which is a common theme of Spring: baby animals are being born, trees and flowers begin to bloom, crops/gardens are being planted, etc.

Here are some ideas of some Spring Equinox rituals you can try and home with your family:

🐣1. Create a Spring Altar and decorate it with symbols of the season

🌱2. Have a Spring Clean, time to have a good clear out after the winter

🦋3. Reconnect with the earth: take a spring walk, make flower potions, plant seeds and wishes for the months ahead

🐒4. Connect with your inner child. Play, dance and sing with your kids

💗5. Try a simple Spring Ritual together, with candles and small intentions

Finally, here are a few journal prompts that you might like to consider yourself:

🌸What are your spring plans and dreams?
🌸What parts of the past months’ darkness, cold, and quiet reflection would you like to carry forward with you?
🌸At this time of shifting balance, what would you like to change or let go?

Hope you like these ideas and that you enjoy this special time with your children and your family ✨🌱🐣
