In the last few years, I’ve found myself living more and more in harmony with the cycles of Mother Nature. I want to share that with my kids and husband. I have been honoring and celebrating the seasonal quarter days of the year — Spring Equinox, Summer Solstice, Autumn Equinox, and Winter Solstice — for some time now. I’m thrilled to now offer these events for children and families.
Our First Event: Winter Solstice 2023
Date: December 17th, 2023
Location: Just before the Winter Solstice, the longest and darkest night of the year
Activities: We acknowledged the season of Winter and found light within it and within us all. We created a ceremony that included dance, creating lanterns and walking the Labyrinth.
Spring Equinox 2024
Date: March 20th, 2024
Location: A gorgeous clearing in a field in nature
Activities: We celebrated the balance of light and dark with family acro yoga, dance, planting seeds, arts, and crafts, and an Easter Egg hunt.
Summer Solstice 2024
Date: June 21st, 2024
Location: Costa Brava, just by the beach
Activities: We traveled up the coast to hold our next family circle in the woods. We did Sun Salutes to welcome the longest day, painted our bodies, danced around the woods as a wild tribe, and made fairy houses for all the magical folk that come out at this time of year. We finished with a swim and a wonderful afternoon on the beach.
Autumn Equinox 2024
Date: September 22nd, 2024
Location: Woods in the Serralada Litoral, near Cabrils
Activities: We honored the equal balance of light and dark at the Equinox. We gathered in the woods, enjoyed seasonal food and drink, did traditional Catalan dancing, talked about the real witches, who were healers and medicine women, and played games such as apple bobbing. We also did some clay arts and crafts with leaves.
Cross Quarter Days in 2025
This year, in 2025, we’re moving our attention to the lesser-known days, the Cross Quarter days in the Wheel of the Year. These are:
Imbolc: February 1st/2nd
Beltane: May 1st
Lughnasadh: August 1st
Samhain (Halloween): October 31st
I’m very thankful and happy to work with two great Catalan women and experienced leaders, Aina of Moviment Ciclic and Berta Vives. It’s important to me that these circles are bilingual in English and Catalan (if needed, they can also be bilingual in Spanish). I want to be part of the culture I live in and the traditions and languages spoken here.
All our events are held in the forest of the Serralada Litoral in Cabrils, Maresme, Spain. There are many beautiful natural places there. It was only right to take these events outside into the natural world. There, big groups of children are naturally more relaxed and where we can truly respect the natural world.
