I've been trying to improve my eating habits and focusing on fresh, healthy and nutritious meals, often plant based. I'm not vegan but I eat mainly vegetarian dishes and if I do eat meat or fish I like to know where it has come from, ideally local and of good/ ethical quality.
But life is about balance and it's important to enjoy your food and so with this is mind I've created a list of some of the top healthy eating restaurants that I have found in Barcelona.
Be inspired!
1. Flax & Kale
Calle Tallers 74B, (Cantanda Gravina), Placa Castella, Ciutat Vella
One of the umbrella of places owned by chef Teresa Carles Borras (Teresa Carles, Teresa's Juicery, Teresa's Stairway to Health all of which deserve to be on this list) Flax & Kale is a Healthy Flexiterian Restaurant with the most beautiful terrace making it a must visit place, particularly in the summer. They offer 80% plant based dishes and 20% oily fished based meals - all are delicious!
2. The Green Spot
C. de la Reina Cristina 12, Port Vell, 08003 Barcelona
'Veggie for Veggies, Veggies for Non Veggies' is their catchline. This relatively new restaurant The Green Spot, near Barceloneta metro, is sleekly designed yet relaxed and welcoming. In the evenings this vegetarian restaurant turns into a bar staying open to 2am on Friday and Saturday nights and with live music on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
3. Nabibi Vital Cooking
C/ Marià Aguiló, 61, Poblenou, Barcelona
This small and cute neighbourhood restaurant on a lovely street in Poble Nou is a firm favourite of mine. Nabibi Vital serves 100% fresh, seasonal, local and natural products and has a fantastic daily Menu del Dia. They have a strong focus on feeding kids well, there's a great Menu Infantil and lots of options that little ones will like.
4. Zero KM
Carrer es la Ribera 18, 08003
I love this place! Not vegetarian or vegan but this restaurant/ cocktail bar has a great ambience and well as a top notch ethos. Just between the Parc del Ciutadella and El Borne, this fun and friendly place serves excellent Mediterranean food and super light and crispy pizzas all featuring seasonal ingredients from farmers, fisherman and ranches near Barcelona. The ZeroKM name comes from that the facts that as many of their ingredients are sourced as locally as possible. 80% of their products are from no more than a 100KM distance away.
